The Hunt

Continuing from yesterday, the job hunt has officially begun, with a position with Rowmark currently up in the air it is best for me to search for jobs within my preferred locations to work. These locations are the areas around Findlay, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Columbus. I feel that a position anywhere in these cities will be the most beneficial for me. Any of the Metropolitan locations would push me outside of my comfort zone and push me to learn new things about each location. For example, each location has different traffic patterns, different atmospheres, new food, and much more. I am currently looking for positions revolving around Cost Accounting or Financial Analyst positions. Throughout my time at Rowmark, I have been able to identify my favorite parts about this internship, which included, comparing financial statements, completing budgets and projections for future months, identifying ways to become more efficient and auditing what money is being spent on inside or...

Capstone update Part 1

Well it's been a minute. Capstone has officially engulfed my life. Today my capstone group presented our initial presentation for our client. My group is working with the Darke County Visitors Bureau and looking for trends as to why the county is experiencing a decrease in overnight stays. This project has my group looking into all sorts of analytics from pings the county receives a day, to the specific businesses have within the county. This allows us to notice what is trending throughout the county, and what may be more likely to receive searches. Other research that I personally have done includes sifting through pages of data involving the lodging tax, or what is called a bed tax. A bed tax is when someone stays overnight within a specific county. This tax is added to the taxes already in play in order to provide revenue through not for profit organizations to assist in promoting the county. The County Visitors Bureau assists in driving consumers and visitors to the county. O...

Analytics

Analytics are the driving factor behind what makes companies, individuals, or groups successful on all Social Media platforms. Each platform has its own analytics that provide similar statistics, but pertain to the relevancy of the platform. On Twitter, anyone can view their analytics for their personal tweets. This portion of data shows the user can see “Impressions”, meaning how many users saw the tweet. Beneath this, another statistic displayed as “Total Interactions.” The user can view what counts as an interaction, this reveals total likes a tweet has, how many users opened the tweet, Profile clicks the tweet acquired, and the quantified amount of users retweeting this to their own timelines. These analytics are intriguing to me due to how numbers are shown when comparing tweets to the next tweet. When I tweet jokes, trends show that these acquire more attention and travel farther than a serious tweet about something I may have an opinion on. I used to assist in operating Phi Mu...

Halfway There

Each day I am learning that being an adult is stressful. With bills to pay every month, a credit score to maintain, jobs to apply for. While being an adult keeping healthy is tough. Today I finished work at 7:00 PM, leaving me until about 7:30 PM until I arrived back in Ada. I have learned that working means bringing work home, also called homework. Ohio Northern has prepared me for this life, but balancing this work and College life is no easy task. I was asked today how I am still managing my hectic schedules, and I had no answers. Yes, I have skipped classes due to me turning my alarm off in my sleep, but this is something that comes with being tired. I have started the process of applying for jobs, including for a new job at my current place of employment. As this next chapter in my life grows, being consistent and not backing down from each new challenge keeps me going. Being excited about the new stage has brought forth a new type of energy. This energy will be how I get through ...

LIVE at Homecoming

This past weekend I decided it would be cool to showcase how Ohio Northern, ONU, displays its Polar Bear pride. The majority of all the Greek life at ONU participate every year. The parade this year had James Lehr Kennedy be the Parade’s, Grand Marshall. Followed by Dan and Chris Dibiasio, and finally, Klondike bringing up the end of the corvettes. The ONU Marching Band followed Klondike playing the Hymn for Ohio Northern. The only other band that participated in the parade was from Perry High school. After witnessing and participating in other parades, this one is small to witness. Coming from Mason we had about three parades a year, one for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and sometimes a parade for our Heritage Festival. Being apart of a Parade in Mason was an experience like no other. Each parade route may have been exactly the same, but there was always a crowd of people along the entire parade route. Being in the homecoming parade at ONU provides a different experienc...

Social Media: Restricted or free-range?

Writing a social media policy for an organization, company, or group is a lot harder than it appears to be. As the author of this policy, you must be aware of how you write out what is involved in the policy. This could allow those following the policy to point out flaws in the document requiring constant updates and revisions to this policy. While it can be found that some organizations display a broad policy, others are found to be detail-oriented about what members or employees are allowed to do on each social media platform. I used to work for Cedar Fair at Kings Island, the stance that we had to take for our social media usage, especially when sharing about Kings Island was that we were not allowed to share any details of any upgrades a park may have. Whether that was a new ride development, a new event like Winterfest, or even if a ride would close after that year. We acted like we learned about each news just like our friends that did not work at the amusement park. Then for ano...
