Analytics

Analytics are the driving factor behind what makes companies, individuals, or groups successful on all Social Media platforms. Each platform has its own analytics that provide similar statistics, but pertain to the relevancy of the platform. On Twitter, anyone can view their analytics for their personal tweets. This portion of data shows the user can see “Impressions”, meaning how many users saw the tweet. Beneath this, another statistic displayed as “Total Interactions.” The user can view what counts as an interaction, this reveals total likes a tweet has, how many users opened the tweet, Profile clicks the tweet acquired, and the quantified amount of users retweeting this to their own timelines. These analytics are intriguing to me due to how numbers are shown when comparing tweets to the next tweet. When I tweet jokes, trends show that these acquire more attention and travel farther than a serious tweet about something I may have an opinion on. I used to assist in operating Phi Mu Delta’s Facebook page and I had very little understanding at how to read the analytics behind each post the page created. Analytics are serving both the user’s profile and the user’s interactions. Analytics shows the user how fast a company may respond to a customer on Facebook, on average how busy a location is through Google, and when a person was last active on Social Media. These are useful for the user in how we interact with each other through the digital world.

  1. It is crazy to see how analytics have become the driving force behind social media users. It is all about what they can produce to get the most views, clicks or subscribers. Anything that falls outside of that bubble is obsolete and does not need to be published. That isn't to say that analytics aren't important because it most certainly helps people or companies effectively streamline the process of communication.
