Social Media: Restricted or free-range?

Writing a social media policy for an organization, company, or group is a lot harder than it appears to be. As the author of this policy, you must be aware of how you write out what is involved in the policy. This could allow those following the policy to point out flaws in the document requiring constant updates and revisions to this policy. While it can be found that some organizations display a broad policy, others are found to be detail-oriented about what members or employees are allowed to do on each social media platform. I used to work for Cedar Fair at Kings Island, the stance that we had to take for our social media usage, especially when sharing about Kings Island was that we were not allowed to share any details of any upgrades a park may have. Whether that was a new ride development, a new event like Winterfest, or even if a ride would close after that year. We acted like we learned about each news just like our friends that did not work at the amusement park. Then for another company, we could post about whatever, there were no limitations. This did not lead to the employees posting inappropriate things that reflected poorly on the company though. From my experience, we were excited to post about the work that we had accomplished and felt pride in sharing what we got to do on a daily basis. There is no perfect Social Media Policy but I am a believer that people will act appropriately online as they would offline in front of a stranger they have never met.

    It's so cool that you have already worked for Social Media. I have never had any experience like that, so it was interesting to read what you think about Social Media. I agree with you that Social Media Policy is much more complicated thing that people used to think. And it also depends a lot on the companies, platforms, their products and followers. Thanksgiving is Christmas' Shadow

With the holiday season quickly approaching it appears that Thanksgiving always gets the short end of the stick. With Christmas and the entire season of Winter, this holiday tends to be forgotten. Stores like Walmart, Target, Meijer, Hobby Lobby, Kroger put up Christmas decorations directly after Halloween. Fall decorations disappear after October 31, and immediately winter decorations get placed out. These decorations usually consist of Christmas trees, lights, nativity scenes, snowmen, snowflakes. All the colors change from bright reds, yellows, oranges, transitions to reds and greens . This gives Thanksgiving a very short period, specifically three days. The rule in my family has always been Thanksgiving before Christmas, in the house the Christmas season does not begin until Black Friday shopping begins. Welcome to the more random posts on my blog. These uploads can range from new music finds that I think the readers should listen to through items that are just absolutely random.
