Capstone update Part 1


Well it's been a minute. Capstone has officially engulfed my life. Today my capstone group presented our initial presentation for our client. My group is working with the Darke County Visitors Bureau and looking for trends as to why the county is experiencing a decrease in overnight stays. This project has my group looking into all sorts of analytics from pings the county receives a day, to the specific businesses have within the county. This allows us to notice what is trending throughout the county, and what may be more likely to receive searches. Other research that I personally have done includes sifting through pages of data involving the lodging tax, or what is called a bed tax. A bed tax is when someone stays overnight within a specific county. This tax is added to the taxes already in play in order to provide revenue through not for profit organizations to assist in promoting the county. The County Visitors Bureau assists in driving consumers and visitors to the county. One way the Visitors Bureau assists in this is creating a brochure every other year. The county delegate stated that businesses around the county buy-out certain pages each edition. To a certain degree, this provides a steady income for the bureau, but not one substantial enough to support all of its needs. Our capstone group is looking into identifying more trends on what may assist in creating more revenue for the county, as well as venturing into ideas that could be counted for as investments, acquiring state grants, endorsements from celebrities, or even lobbying for a higher bed tax to assist in an increase of revenue for. This is a unique capstone experience because as a group we are working with a real live client, providing a real service, and potentially creating several real solutions that Darke County may be able to use in their future. My goal is to continuously post and provide updates about this capstone assignment, at least as much as I will be allowed to share. Until next time.

    Honestly, capstone scares the ever-living crap out of me. I hear all my senior friends talk about capstone and how much time they put into it. It stresses me out even more that it's only worth on e credit hour. Your capstone sounds pretty interesting. I hope everything ends up successful for you.

Thanksgiving is Christmas' Shadow

With the holiday season quickly approaching it appears that Thanksgiving always gets the short end of the stick. With Christmas and the entire season of Winter, this holiday tends to be forgotten. Stores like Walmart, Target, Meijer, Hobby Lobby, Kroger put up Christmas decorations directly after Halloween. Fall decorations disappear after October 31, and immediately winter decorations get placed out. These decorations usually consist of Christmas trees, lights, nativity scenes, snowmen, snowflakes. All the colors change from bright reds, yellows, oranges, transitions to reds and greens . This gives Thanksgiving a very short period, specifically three days. The rule in my family has always been Thanksgiving before Christmas, in the house the Christmas season does not begin until Black Friday shopping begins. Beautiful Mind Records

Welcome to the more random posts on my blog. These uploads can range from new music finds that I think the readers should listen to through items that are just absolutely random.
