Thanksgiving is Christmas' Shadow
With
the holiday season quickly approaching it appears that Thanksgiving always gets
the short end of the stick. With Christmas and the entire season of Winter,
this holiday tends to be forgotten. Stores like Walmart, Target, Meijer, Hobby
Lobby, Kroger put up Christmas decorations directly after Halloween. Fall
decorations disappear after October 31, and immediately winter decorations get
placed out. These decorations usually consist of Christmas trees, lights,
nativity scenes, snowmen, snowflakes. All the colors change from bright reds,
yellows, oranges, transitions to reds and greens. This gives Thanksgiving a very short period, specifically three days. The rule in my family has always been Thanksgiving before Christmas, in the house the Christmas season does not begin until Black Friday shopping begins. This has always been the case for our family because of downtown Cincinnati hosts a tree lighting to officially kick off the Christmas season. This has been a tradition in our family ever since I was in Intermediate school. With Christmas approaching closer and closer each year. Thanksgiving is an underrated holiday and should always be commemorated as the kickstart to the Christmas season.
