Facebook Groups

In chapter 9  our book “Social Media for Strategic Communication” discusses shared media. Shared media involves interacting with others through a medium. Conversations usually begin through shared or linked content. Then groups may branch off from this comment. One group that I am actually apart of a group that is a fan base from a Canadian Television show called “Letterkenny.” This show focuses on three groups of people from Letterkenny, Canada. These specific groups are Farmers, Hicks, and Hockey Players. The show has acquired a fanbase across Canada and the United States. This group is called Letterkenny Degen memes. The group is dedicated to creating memes from quotes of the show or using scenes from the show. Recently the show released a new season. After about a week from the season is available on the Hulu streaming platform, the group on Facebook began discussing the season and dissected each part of each episode throughout the season. Groups like this allow for specific discussion among a central topic. Other Facebook groups may be broadened about a topic or even specified even further. Over the past year, Facebook has looked into ways to involve more of its users in Facebook Groups. The push for this is seen in creating communities revolving around centralized topics. Allowing a sense of community throughout the platform. One of the groups that Facebook sponsors are a group called Dads with Daughters. This group focuses on a specific niche of Dads with Daughters. This group allows the community to share ideas and post any struggles they may have. Each platform appears to have a niche. This I believe is the peak of Facebook and its niche for the social media industry.

  1. Facebook groups are always a great thing to be a part of. In fact, my hometown has its very own Facebook group. Thus, it houses a place for all the moms in the town to complain about their kid not getting enough recognition when the reality is that their kid does not deserve the recognition in the first place. The internet really is a magical place.
