Snapchat's Evolution
This week on Zach talks about social media lets dip into Snapchat. Snapchat was founded back in 2012 and has seen a variety of changes both for the better and the worse. One update that Snapchat created was a way to send your friends money through the app. Luckily this was not a super popular addition to the platform. Popular features to this platform have been the addition of stories, being able to chat with someone without having to send a picture, being able to put multiple friends into a group to talk to everyone at once, the addition of filters to images, and finally the development of SnapMaps. When this function was released rumors circled about who would be able to see who on this map, how accurate the map would be if the user could set restrictions on who may see their location or what they are doing. This feature was introduced with instructions on how to effectively use this feature showing the user that this update still keeps Snapchat simple and fun to use for Millennials and Generation Z. With all these features within this platform, my favorite thing is watching my parents use the app. The use is bare minimal, and cannot quite comprehend the basic principle that Snapchat has tried to maintain since they were founded in 2012. Sending pictures that disappear after a certain amount of seconds, or after an image is closed. In the newest updates and additions of groups and stories, the longest a picture or video remains visible for is 24 hours, allowing the instant message to live on through Snapchat. As long as this platform continues to release new content that is simple, fun, and friendly the network should not dissipate in the next few years but be around for at least another decade.
Snapchat has taken over! This was a great post man and it is crazy to think companies wanted to kill and crush this app. Now everyone can not go a day without posting or using snapchat it seems. I know I have streaks I like to keep up and even news stories I like to subscribe to on the side through my snapchat. Still blows my mind that it tracks location now, photos, and even allows you to transfer money if you really wanted too. I too suspect snapchat staying for a long time and ti potentially grow even bigger.
